Two nights of booing in South Philly are rooted in much more than this lackluster Phillies team - The Athletic

Before the Phillies played the 131st game in this peculiar season, their manager stood behind his desk and proclaimed, “I don’t think our fans are entitled.” And this was totally normal. So was Sean Rodríguez, celebrating a double as a smattering of boos serenaded him. “Terrible,” he mouthed, and it was visible on the Phillies TV broadcast. Some of his teammates booed him in jest.

These past 48 hours were so on-brand for the 2019 Phillies, a team that has never captured the attention that its executives, coaches and players believe it warrants. They are two games back of a postseason spot with 31 games remaining. They are angered because this is a city that fixates on the negative.

Maybe the people here had unrealistic expectations for this season. Maybe they are too tough on their sports teams. Maybe they think they have detected a scam.
